چکیده

The paper covers an overview of image compression methods that are commonly used in digital telecommunication systems. A proposal is made how adaptive optimisation schemes can be applied in order to provide an optimal level of service quality. The criterion of optimality is set by a currently available network bandwidth, while providing a user with best possible quality of service. The problem, described in the paper, is how to select optimal image compression and transmission parameters, which employ currently available bandwidth and maintains perceptual degradation at a minimum level. The optimisation is constrained by minimum quality of service requirements.

End-Point Resource Admission Control for Remote Control Multimedia Applications

One goal in certain classes of networked multimedia applications, such as full-feedback remote control, is to provide end-to-end guarantees. To achieve guarantees, all resources along the path(s) between the resource(s) and sink(s) must be controlled. Resource availability is checked by the admission service during the call establishment phase. Current admission services control only network re...

New Algorithms for Admission Control and Scheduling to Support Multimedia Feedback Remote Control Applications

Multimedia feedback remote control applications create a multimedia control loop between devices such as robot hands and cameras and a human user. Such applications are characterized by continuous update of multimedia data passed to and from the remote device(s), e.g., tactile, force and visual information. The supporting multimedia system must provide application-to-application quality of serv...
